Have you heard of Zoodles and Spaghetti Squash? Well, these are both great alternatives to pasta. They are made out of veggies and taste great. Here I will tell you what they are, how to make them and some recipes for these veggie pastas.

Zoodles

These are zucchini noodles. Zoodles look like pencil shavings, but… like zucchini shavings. They come out of the machine like long thin strands. You must be wondering about the machine right? It’s called a Vegghetti. The small one looks like an hourglass and works like a sharpener. You can buy it here. But there is another one called the Vegghetti pro. Though this one may be a bit pricey, it takes less effort and makes many different types of slices, like a thin cut, noodles, and coleslaw veggies. I suggest the Vegghetti pro because after reading some amazon reviews, it seems that the regular pencil sharpener Vegghetti is suitable for one or two people max, can only fit a certain size and shape of vegetable, and takes a lot of effort. I got the Vegghetti pro (THANKS MOM!) and I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m very excited to! To use the regular one, just put in the zucchini and turn to create the noodles. For the pro, select the right blade and put in any vegetable and turn the handle. Did I mention that these Zoodles are 1/8th the carbs and calories of regular noodles? Spaghetti Squash

Spaghetti squash is a little different from Zoodles. First of all, I’ve actually made this one. Second, you don’t need a special machine or tool. All you need to make the basic noodles are a fork, squash, knife, and microwave (maybe some bowls too). It is a little sweet, but not too sweet. It also has a great texture. Now, the squash you need isn’t the Thanksgiving squash. When I told my mom about this, she brought home a small squash that was yellow, thin, and curly. This isn’t the squash you need. What you do need to make this is a round, two pound, hard and yellow squash. It took me a few times to figure out that its name was actually Spaghetti squash. First, take the squash  and pierce it with a knife a couple of times so it doesn’t explode in the microwave. Now just put it in the microwave for 12-14 minutes or until soft. Make sure the skin stays up and doesn’t sink in because if it does you’ve cooked it too much. Make some more holes to let the steam come out and let it cool for about ten minutes, since the inside is very hot. Then cut it in half and scoop the seeds out. Now take the squash and pull apart the individual strands with a fork, until all that’s left is the skin. These strands are your spaghetti.
